Wooden Shoes and Holland Michigan

Mommy Kim and Daddy Paul arrived last night and Kiddies were soooo happy to see them.  We were invited to go on a mini road trip with them to Holland, Michigan on Lake Michigan today.  This is the western side of Michigan.  So off we went about 9 in the morning.  Destination Big Red.

Our first stop was Veldheer/DeKlomp, the Wooden Shoe Factory.  Not too hard to find

This the business end of the factory.

If you like delft you'll love this shop.  At one time I had a huge collection of delft but I've moved out of my blue and white kitchen phase.  This is a full size violin.  Absolutely beautiful.

Need shoes?  Don't try this if you have falling arches.  OUCH!

Wonder if she gets sick of blue?

So pretty.

After torturing our feet but enjoying the beautiful delft we moved along to downtown Holland.  Definitely touristy but beautiful and with great old architecture and trees lining the streets.

And of course the flowers...everywhere.  I can't keep my camera out of the middle of the clusters.

Panini and hotdogs on the open sidewalk cafe.  Lucy and Lilly loved it!

Then it was off to the beach along the beautiful coast of Lake Michigan.

A lone fisherman along the way.  Not catching much either.  This is actually Lake Macatawa.

Big Red

With Lilly and Lucy's help Bill begins the arduous task of counting the grains of sand.

Paul, Kim, Hunter and Austin...a happy reunited family.

Our happy little family.  Did someone say pizza for dinner?

Returned to Walden Woods in Hartland around 6 p.m. and finally found a Pizza Hut in Brighton.  Devoured two large pizzas and a family dish of bread sticks.  You'd think we'd worked in a field all day.  What a bunch of chow hounds.

The boys are headed back to Connecticut tomorrow morning and our rig is almost painfully quiet....you notice I said almost.  Ahhhhhh....it was a great week but the best part, having previously only heard about it, and now experienced it....the grand-kids get to go home.  Being a grandparent is a total blast!!!  We'll soon be ready for another spoiling session.

 Thanks for visiting.
