Ah the Allegany Mountains

We were on the road by 9 a.m. this morning heading for the Allegany mountains.  A stop in Erie Pa for fuel and Petsmart to stock up on the girls "special" doggie food.  I already miss Kenisee Lakes.  We had such a nice time there with new friends and old (not aged necessarily).  Even last night we ran into a couple from Aberdeen WA that we'd met in Las Vegas a few years ago.  Small world.

Nasty picture but these signs come up so fast it's hard to capture going nearly 60 mph.  I haven't been in Pennsylvania since 1958 when my sister Becky was born in New Castle.  The drive was beautiful and before we knew it....

New York sure in hilly and lots of winding roads.  So now we're in the Allegany mountains.

Lots of winding roads.

Drove through a few very scenic towns and one is less than 10 miles away so tomorrow we'll snoop out and go to Ellicottville, NY.

I can't recall which town this is.  Maybe Jamestown, or Randolph, or ?

Beautiful little church.

It started to rain just as we approached the park.  Then stopped and got steamy.

The skies opened up and it poured just after we got our jacks down and slide out.  No power until the downpour ended....which it did to a beautiful but steamy afternoon.

Fall colors are just starting to come out.  It will be early this year.

Our trip down the Natches Trace should be gorgeous.

Allegany Mountain Resort, an ROD park, is situated on Rainbow Lake.  It's all very scenic.  The park is very generous with their sites and each one is situated to take advantage of some view, even if not the lake.  No side by side parking.  It's like fiddle sticks, everything is helter skelter, no obvious plan but it all works.

There are over 900 sites in this park.  Many of the sites are owned privately but under the management of the park.

This mini golf is the best maintained of all the parks we've been to.

Three pools, two outside and unheated. one inside and heated.

There's fishing on the huge lake.  You're welcome to take their boats out at no charge.

Bridge across a creek that feeds into the lake.

There are a lot of these little mini islands in the lake.  Makes me wonder if it's a man-made lake.

There's even provisions for the little birdies.

A beautiful walk through just a part of the park.  They laughed when I asked if there's a shuttle service to the other side of the lake where the main lodge is located.

We have a beautiful site and got all settled in within an hour of the last downpour.  No rain since.

So that's it for today.  Tomorrow is a little exploring and then a fish fry at the lodge.  Thanks for visiting.

We loved Nachez Trace but saw it in May. If you have not done so before, the drive up the Trace to Nashville is lovely. George&Dottie Alexander
