A Week With Family In Fairfield, Connecticut

It was a beautiful morning for a drive through New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.  Oh who am I kidding!  I was as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.  I was not looking forward to the freeway lanes just wide enough for an Amish Buggy and potholes deep enough to hide a treasure chest.  New Jersey's roads were good, but New York and Connecticut were so so...but so much better than Pennsylvania.

A sweet little dear, er deer off the side of our motorhome at the park in East Stroudsburg.

The park in East Stroudsburg is right on the eastern border of Pennsylvania so it was only 15 minutes before we were in New Jersey.

We filled up with diesel in a small town along Hwy 46 called Parsippany.  Diesel was $3.63.  That was far better than $3.99 plus in Pennsylvania.  And a lot cheaper than anything in New York or Connecticut.  I could never imagine I'd be riding in a huge motorhome into New York State, but here we were.

Oh, by the way, we now own a piece of this bridge.  Tappen Zee Bridge crosses the Hudson River in the State of New York.  It cost $5 for a 2 axle car to cross and $25 for the car and motorhome.  Now that's highway robbery.  I reminded her the the motorhome was only two axle, not 6.   She was not fazed.  I would have thought $10 would have been plenty.  I have the receipt for our purchase.

Crossing the Hudson River

We went past Sleepy Hollow but did not see Ichabod Crane, the headless horseman.  Actually we saw no horseman, headless or otherwise.

Soon enough we were crossing into Connecticut, along the US 95.  I'll tell you some of these overpasses are really marginal for clearance.  We just made sure we had a big semi ahead of us so he'd go under first.  If he crunched then we were prepared to stop.

Okay, in case you might have thought we were kidding about fuel prices, just check out the cost posted below after we passed into Connecticut.  That's 80 cents a gallon more than we paid in New Jersey.

What a beautiful tree lined street.  Georgeous, but everything looks like this up in Fairfield.  See the dark car parked on the right just down the right side...that's where we're going to stay this next week.

This is where we fit in the yard.  Very nice, under a shade tree, kids nearby.  20 amps...hmmmm.  We are a bit spoiled with our 30-50 amp parks, but we have full access to the house.

Bill and I wanted to see the kids playing baseball this summer and we sure had plenty of opportunities. Hunter, now 12 is getting paid to umpire little league baseball.  He's also on a team.

Getting so grown up, so fast.

And then there's Austin, who's 8 now.  All charm.

Batter Up!

Hunter, Kim and I went for a stroll in downtown Fairfield and came upon Mark Twain.  Got a quick picture of Hunter making his acquaintance.

Paul talked Bill into a buzz cut.  Great entertainment for after dinner.

I think Hunter is enjoying this too much.  Careful, Grandpa will be bald soon.

Brody and his playing catch.  Non stop, never tires.

Looking good Bill.  Nice and short for the summer.

An afternoon of golf with the grandkids.

Hunter taking a good swing.  "No Big Deal".  Twelve and so confident.

Last Day with the kids and grandkids.
It's Memorial Day and the event of the season is the parade in Fairfield.  Unfortunately Austin was having a bad day.  He does have two sides to his bed so I'm figuring he got up on the wrong side.

He did not want to go to the parade and he especially did not want to go up the stairs from the train station parking.  Grandpa gave him a "little assist".

It was a warm day and sitting in the sun waiting for the parade we had multiple opportunities to buy junk.

A Civil War band, piccolos and all.  I have to remind myself we are no longer in Confederate country.

Looks like the mascot got loose.
Piper Band, bags and all.

A little banjo music.  All in all, a nice little town parade.  Lots of people, kids have a blast....just like it should be.  We had a great time.

Grandpa Bill giving Brody a walking lesson.  This is the sweetest dog ever.

Later we all went to a Little League game for Austin.

Later we had a barbecue at Steve and Amie's house over in Westport.

Good to see old friends, their growing fast kids and their menagerie of pets.

Our week with the kids was over so the next morning we packed up the rig and headed north to reunite with the "gang".  We drove through the Connecticut and just crossing into Massachusetts we arrived at Sturbridge.

We had a wonderful week with the grand kids and Paul and Kim.  Memories of a lifetime.  Now back to business....I'm all caught up on the blog so it's time to go see some more places.

Thanks for visiting us.  Stay tuned.
