We lost an hour en route yesterday so it seemed really late when we went to bed. Up bright and early for the Sunday drive to St. Ignace, Michigan. Our Wal-Marquette room view showed us a beautiful and sunny morning.
You would think we were driving down the coast of California. Can you believe this is the coast of Lake Michigan.
There's even sandy beaches and dunes.
I think that's Catalina across the water.
We pulled into Kewadin Shores Casino just before noon. Instructions were to notify the hotel front desk of our arrival. On the way in we stopped for new cards since we'd never been to this casino. Wow...we got to stay free as new card holders and we got 3 coupons for 2 free night stays, one for Aug, Sept and Oct. We'll never use them but it was nice to get.
Just inside. A gorgeous ceiling and view through the end windows.
The view. We had the same view with brunch but we sat inside.
Not a bad site at all, for free. We have power and water and there's a dump station around the corner.

Later in the afternoon we drove into the town of St. Ignace. Sunday afternoon all the tourist had left except for these three. They got a very exciting ride because the wind was whipping up pretty good by then. That's Mackinac Island in the background.
There's three ferry lines that run to the island. Shepplers, Arnolds and Star Line. We're taking Arnolds because it's the cheapest and what's an extra 10 minutes to get there when you're retired and between us we save enough for lunch on the island. The Star Line is known for its "rooster tail". I think the captains are young, jet jockey wannabees..they sure fly through the harbor on their hydro-jets.
It's a very cute town, wrapped around the harbor with great scenery in every direction.
And how could you not have a delicious ice cream cone on National Ice Cream Day. Excellent ice cream by the way.

Are you with Larry?
Not right now. Larry will catch up with us in about a month. In the meantime we'll be joined by our grandsons in St. Clair, Michigan, just NE of Detroit and south of Port Huron. When he and Gail get here we'll all go Niagara Falls and then continue our trip, heading more south by then.
