Tonka Trucks on Steroids

Thursday morning we hauled ourselves out of the comfort and familiarity of Camp Barnum for the 180 mile trip north to Littlefork, MN.  Larry's sister Bev join him for this trip so he had a companion on the long haul.

Along the way we stopped at Virginia City to see the Mesabi Iron Range at Mining View.

Virginia City, MN

This may appear to be just one of 10,000 lakes in Minnesota but in reality it is the old mine.  This lake is over 250 deep.  In the bottom picture you can see closer to the bottom.  There was a lot of iron and ore taken out of this pit.

Photo taken decades ago.  That's what I say when I don't know when it was taken.

Even more impressive was the huge Tonka Trucks sitting on the high overlook ridge.  To view the size of the equipment scroll down.

This is BIG

Right!

You can take the kid out of the Tonka but not the Tonka out of the kid.  Larry enjoying being King of the Load.

Same drill here.
