After the beautiful sunrise we hit the road again. Destination, Arnold Air Force Base. Gail is retired Air Force and gets base camping privileges for herself and friends. This doesn't apply to all bases but the one in Tennessee it does.
Look closely at this truck. It has a helicopter on it. This was a first for me. Never saw a helicopter going down the freeway.
We also noticed that the Tennessee folk sure like there fireworks. They sell them everywhere.
Just a couple of the billboards and businesses we spotted on the drive north.
There was a long pass that was only about 2000 feet at the summit, though we never really noticed, but it was a pretty drive. And noticably cooler. Hey gang, I think we're going the wrong direction. Warm weather is south.
Here we go down the road to the campground. This is beautiful country.
A friendly security at the Base Gate. Of course we had to turn around, go hook up then come back and sign in.
These planes are a sure sign that this isn't just your routine campground. To get on the base we had to be finger printed, mug shot and counseled on the do's and don'ts of base protocol. I was a navy brat so I'd heard the spill before. Glad I had nothing I was hiding.
So we shopped and checked out the PX and the Commissary, which were small. If you know your prices you'd see some things were definitely cheaper and then once in a while you'd find something that wasn't or was the same as say WalMart. Meats, cheese, bread...staples were definitely cheaper. I wish I had a bigger freezer. We grabbed a lite early dinner and were heading to Tullahoma's WalMart for a new AT&T smartphone for Gail when a lady pulled up alongside and told Larry he didn't have break lights. We found a still open Ford Dealership and at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning they'll be checking it out. Probably has something to do with the new Invisibrake he had installed at the Rally.
So we're back at the FamCam Park in time for an amazing sunset.
All settled in at a beautiful park in the middle of an Air Force Base in the middle of nowhere.
Beautiful fall colors too!

We enjoy all your posts but this one was especially good for us. We stay at FamCamps as George is retired Navy and Arnold AFB is one we never heard of. Looks great and we may try it on our next trip East to see family. This year we are trying a new one (to us) just south of Sacramento right off I-5. The sad part is that this one is on the BRAC list for 2014. It is an Army supply depot. Travel safely.George&Dottie
