It was just the two rigs and before we knew it the spaces around us filled up. We met four new couples, all of them are going to the Good Sam Rally in Atlanta next week. We spent most evening with them hanging out around the firepit. These five days before Unadilla is what RVing is all about...making new and fun friends. And this was a good thing because after two days we'd seen the area and had to rely on ourselves for entertainment. This wasn't too difficult with our new friends.
We did see one interesting sight while exploring WalMart during the first day. This sure looked real...a little Georgia humor?
The days flew by, but this morning we left for Unadilla, Georgia (Bill and my home resort for R.O.D. ) We found some cheap gas and diesel along the way....okay it ended up 10-15 miles out of our way so some of our savings was lost in the transaction. We paid $2.93 for gas and Larry paid $3.56 for diesel. We were happy drivers still.
We saw some very interesting clouds along the way too.
Then it all cleared away to normal puffy whites and a blue sky. Well Lordie Bee...we have arrived: IN Unadilla. This silo was right next to Myron Mixon's place. Notice the fancy trailer and truck. Myron Mixon is an American celebrity chef and competitor on the competitive barbecue circuit. He is a three time barbecue World Champion, and appears as a judge on Destination America reality television show BBQ Pitmasters.
We drove around to see what else was in "town".
This reminded us we'll be looking for Jimmy Carter in the next day or so. Hope to attend his Sunday service.
Whooooohooooo Peggy,
found you a gem!!
What surprised me the most about Unadilla was the number of houses that looked like this that were being lived in.
There's a lot of poverty around this town.
This is more my style. It's a fixer too.
All set up...had to run back to the Family Dollar or Dollar General...where's the Dollar Tree??? to get more spray, dutch cleanser and boric powder. Damn ants!
Southern Trails RV Resort. Friendly staff.
There's even a chapel on the property.
And the pool is still open...not heated...why it's been in the 80's...who needs heat?
The grounds to Southern Trail is very much in a pecan orchard...or what must have one day been a beautiful one. This orchard has seen better days. It is very pastoral and peaceful...except for the ants.
Our neighbor, an older Arabian, who's also seen better days, but still beautiful and very curious and friendly.
This coming week should be a bit busier than last. Stop by again. See you soon.
