On Top of Ole Smokey Mountains

Been looking forward to this day for a long time.  After a week of Dollywood/Las Vegas it is nice to head out to see pure, natural beauty.  No lights, souvenirs, wild rides.  Just beautiful trees.

Okay, here we go, winding up to the top of the Smokies.

Climbing and beautiful winding roads and TREES.

Climbing, winding, TREES.

Climbing, winding, TREES.

A little more climbing, winding and TREES.

Still climbing, winding and TREES.

Do we have portable air?

Hey, the TREES are starting to change we've been climbing and winding so long.

I suppose the creek is there for us to cool our radiators down from all the climbing, winding and TREES.

Larry, we need to talk about your route suggestions.

And still we continue to climb and wind through the TREES.  Haha...you thought I was going to say the same thing didn't you?

Ah come on....okay just a TREE.

UP, UP, UP, WIND, WIND, WIND, TREES, TREES, TREES.

Hey, a covered bridge, or so Larry would call it.  It's still a tunnel where I come from.

And what do you know.  We finally reach the top.  5,300 feet.  That was 38 miles of upgrade pull.  No wonder our mpg dropped to 5.3.

Oh well, just gas.

What a view.  These next three pictures are taken from the top of the Smokey Mountain.  View is south towards North Carolina.

Our downward trip is through the western side of North Carolina.

Just hanging out at the top.  Of course the one person/driver we asked about the downward side of these mountains was on his first trip.

Okay, here we go.  More winding and TREES.  But we're not climbing now. Whew.

More creeks along the road.  Not thirsty now.

Winding downhill and still lots of TREES.

B T W Bill...I have nothing to hold onto....yes, that was Lucy who just slid off my lap.

Weeeeee, wee wee weeeeeeeeeeee!

Lots of winding and TREES.  Still no handles on this side Bill.

Well at least we have two lanes racing downhill.

And we continue through North Carolina.

Such beautiful colors.  Down, down, down we go.  We've dropped to about 2800 feet by now.

So long North Carolina.  We'll visit another day.

Hey, hey, Georgia...North Georgia...I thought there was only one Georgia?  Is there now a South Georgia?

Getting closer to our destination.

I love these kind of white fences.

 Final approach.  Greensboro, Georgia

We only drove 215 miles today but it feels like 500.  It took us 90 minutes to go 38 miles uphill.....hehehe only 30 minutes to go the other 22.

We've arrived at Northshore Resorts in Greensboro, GA.  We'll stay put for a week.

Cool office building. Actually we'll find out there are a number of train cabins on the property.
Here's one by one of the closed down pools.

Nice lakeside park.  That's a train bridge in the distance.  Glad we're on the other side of the park.

Home Sweet Home

And Happy Birthday Gail....tomorrow is a birthday celebration.  We love to party.

Come visit again...and thanks for taking time for our blog.
