Traveling to Tishomingo

Oh my gosh!  Miss Lilly did not want to get up this morning.  Hopefully she'll get up for breakfast and so I can make the bed.  Dogs!  And Kim, you think Brody is spoiled?

On the road again....did you notice we did not stay until November 11th?  LMAO  Of course it was cold again with rain last night.  But already this morning it's sunny out with the promise of a beautiful day to travel.  Good bye Natchez Trace Wilderness Preserve (NACO).  We had a fun visit.

Here's a perfect picture of how to avoid crunching your rig.

The drive south continues to be beautiful in spite of two days of rain over the past week.

We weren't about to go looking for mudholes so we took their word for it.

Sweetwater Trail was our next stop.

 It was near Sweetwater Branch

Tootling down the road we next stopped at the Welcome Center.  We sure were surprised when we pull off into an actual town.

Some local art in the Welcome Center

This couple was playing dulcimers.  The sound was beautiful.  They played Shenandoah while we ate their cookies, had coffee and visited.  What a great Welcome Center.  That's Mississippi.  While we were in there we met a couple from Gold Canyon, Arizona.  By the time we left the parking lot was full.

There was only room for a few motorcycles.

The quilts hanging on the ceiling were beautiful.  The picture doesn't do them justice.  You quilters check out the interesting borders.

Gretchen, check out these cute shade covers.  See if you can find a way to make them on the embroidery machines.

Off we go again to the Sunken Trace.  The rigs looked so pretty sitting in all the leaves.  It was hard to find the road going in there was so many leaves on the ground.

There was apparently a lot of rerouting to get around the mudholes.

There's a lot more green further south.  I sure hope we're not running out of the pretty fall foliage.

Moving along down the road we find ourselves getting ready for a short hike...okay, walk.

Crossing the creek on these rock/concrete pillars.

The water is very clear where it burbles up from the springs.

Such temptation.

A beautiful stroll along the water.

The beavers have been very busy building dams.

The water was covered with this green algae like stuff.

Can you find the blue heron?

Some beaver handiwork.

A nice spot to rest and enjoy the surroundings.

Returning.  Gail and Larry.

The Tennessee River.  The bridge that crosses it is the longest span bridge on the 443 miles of the Trace.

Location of Colbert's Ferry and Stand.

Looking back on the longest bridge.

The Stand (shop/store) as it looks today.  There is only the know location.

The Stand as it looked long ago.

Just another beautiful shot through the window.

WhooooHoooo.  First time ever in Mississippi.

We stopped at the below site.  My own interest in this is based on the books by the Gears.  They are archaeologists who did a series of "People of the______" about North American Indians from 15000 BC to 300-400 years ago.  The "Mound People" were Indians they wrote about in their book, People of the Raven.  Reading similar to Mitchner.

This is a relatively small mound.  Some mounds were used as burial sites and some had large tunnels with rooms built into them.

We left the TT park this morning about 9:30 and got to Tishomingo at 2:30.  Five hours to go 70 miles.  We're figuring another 10 days to do the rest of the trip to New Orleans.

In the park.

 Very pretty park so far.

The park gate.  Pretty fancy.

All settled in.  The park is almost empty.  There are no other rigs within a half mile of us.

How could we not do a fire tonight.  Someone left a big load of it up next to the tree.

Party Central in the Woods.

Tuna casserole is just about done.  Gail's bringing a salad.  No one is as serious as these three look.  Just tired from a long hard day on the road. The temperature is about 48 at the time of this picture.  It got down to 40 before I came in. Dinner by the fire was really nice.

It sure gets dark here.  It was pitch black outside with only the campfire giving light.  Boy the stars sure were clear through the trees.

Tomorrow we head to Red Bay to see Tiffin Motorhomes being built.  Full report to follow.  Come back again and thanks for visiting.

You all look so tired sitting by the fire. Maybe a little chilly too.
