However, those left behind have a fully booked summer ahead. Gail is due back in about three weeks and it will be great to have her here to keep Larry happy. In the meantime we're heading off to the Catskills at Rondout Valley Resort near Accord, NY.
It was a drive through hell. I will never complain about Washington highways again....oh okay, I probably will, but not seriously. You can literally tell when you cross a state border by the quality of the roads. Massachusetts was some of the worst we've seen and they charge you for the opportunity to jiggle you to insanity. Poor motorhome. New York is marginally better and Pennsylvania is in hard competition with Massachusetts.
Our reward was this beautiful view as we came up and over the "mountain". We call 1500 feet elevation speed bumps.
I ended up calling the park 5 times to get directions. I'd get incomplete instructions that would pan out to nothing. The last call directed us over the "mountain" but not before listening to the staff argue over the best way to get to the park. We were exhausted by the time we arrived...emotionally, mentally and physically.
At last we get to Ellenville, just 20 miles from the park. I guess no one at the park really knew how far to Ellenville....but I do...it is 9.9 miles.
For the sake of getting satellite we opted for the Rally Field, believing the 30 amp power and lack of sewer would be compensation enough. And it would have been if the power was 30, hell, even 20 would have been okay. It was 90 degrees, humidity as high and we couldn't run the air and after 2 days we'd had enough.
And of course we'd pulled all our "stuff" and Larry's "stuff" out and were set up for the Fourth of July.
The Good News: After a long 2 seconds of consideration we decided to tear it all down and move to a 50 amp site with sewer and cable tv. We sacrificed our beloved recording ability on our Dish for cool. Puppies will be happy too. It''s a really pretty site with a creek behind it, lots of trees which will help keep the rig cooler, sort of. Because....
The Bad News: The power here is as bad if not worse than the Rally Field. But we love the site. Rondout Valley staff and manager are the best ever. Everyone is so nice and helpful. The power is what it is for now. We're hoping after the 4th it will improve with fewer rigs here.
Here we are all reset up in the new site. Larry is just down the road in a similar site but no trees like we have but he does get his Direct TV.
Traveling in an RV with all it's trials and tribulations is a dirty job,, but some one has to do it. Tomorrow Larry takes his rig in so he can get his slides out. Once fixed and the slides out he'll feel he's move into a mansion.
So there's our trip to the Catskills. We'll have lots to see here. FDR's home and museum is across the speed bump range in Hyde Park. Going down to check out Catskills Adventure Resort in Wurtsboro, an ROD park 20 miles south. So you'll have more to check out in a couple of days.
Thanks for visiting. See you soon.
