We indulged once again in morning donuts at the Welcome Center with Linda and Ove, Kathie and Bob and newcomers Judy and Clair. And talk about being in the right place at the right time....an employee walked through and announced free corn from yesterdays Corn Roast. Uncooked of course.
It was an interesting challenge to carry 10 ears of corn back on the back of a bike. But mission accomplished. I knew what we were having for dinner.
A long dog walk nearly depleted my energy reserves but the thought of seeing the small town of Jefferson in search of some of the 17 covered bridges in the county re-energized.me
We loaded the girls in the car and were just pulling out when Bob came by on his bike and let us know that there was a dinner party at our place at 4 p.m. Oh....ah....ok...whatever, works for us. We pitched in cash for some pulled pork and a rerun of the Corn Roast was in the making. Off we went.
Jefferson City is so pretty. Lots of huge old houses. Maintenance galore I'm sure. Here's some pics.
An interesting farm along the way.
I love old barns. This one caught my attention.
One of many beautiful estate-like homes in Jefferson City.
One of many churches.
Can these get any prettier?
Stopped for a new propane tank and saw this fellow across the road.
Handsome eh?
Okay, now some fun driving and searching for bridges. Found three of them just where they've been for years. No mystery there.
First bridge we stumbled upon
Driving through. It's safe but bypassed in 1975. Span is 81 feet.
Made it out in one piece.
The Natcher Bridge, "neo-Victorian" style has a span of 110 feet and is actually newer, being built in 1999.
What's interesting is the huge laminated beam arch inside.
The third bridge called the Giddings Bridge wasn't too exciting, but pretty all the same. With a span of 107 feet it was built in 1995.
We did happen upon this US Army memorial to those lost in Vietnam from Jefferson.
Oh OOO...this looks familiar. When we get back our site is full of people. Our friends were playing Pegs and Jokers. Gave us time to come in and relax before a pulled pork and roasted corn dinner.
Some new friends for Lucy and Lilly. These are WestiePoos Logan and Mitzi. They were tolerated by the girls but they really were good puppies.
The dinner party kept growing. Final count 16 people. I'd never even met 6 of them...oh well isn't that what rving is all about!
Dinner was wonderful..as expected. Grilled corn...was perfect. Roasted 20 ears. None of us had actually roasted corn on a grill so it took a village to do the job. Perfectly cooked.
After dinner and a couple of totties Linda was willing to demonstrate her rendition of "prancersize" as seen on television recently. No one would admit to having tried it out.
Marie also gave her imitation of an "old" man getting out of his rig to push the code buttons at Peace River. We learned lots of helpful tips about the park for later this winter.
This one's for you Suzie and Dan. Mahalo.
Thanks for visiting.
