The 2013 Annual D-Day Re-enactment was again held in Conneaut, Ohio. About 25 miles from the park we headed there this morning to see what it's about.
If you wanted to find something made during WWII, worn during WWII, or used in battle during WWII this would be the place.
Clothing....vintage
Lots of booths and collectors collections.
Tanks and ammunition cans.
Yikes, Kaboom
I can guess what these are.
Lots of uniforms, some of these people are really into this enactment stuff.
Some of this was pretty creepy.
Even women were in uniform...costume.
Lots of different vehicles, on land and sea. Mostly represented at the D-Day Re-enactment was Army and some Navy. This was the only Navy uniform I saw.
Free rides in the Landing Craft.

This must be Omaha Beach. Omaha Beach is the code name for one of the five sectors of the Allied invasion of German occupied France in the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944, during World War II.
Lionel Hampton, Benny Goodman and other Big Band music blasted out over these.
Felt like I was at a MASH camp.
One of many camps for the re-en-actors to bed down.
Bill got a hands on with a rifle. He said it was very heavy. Most re-enactors carried weapons...I'm wondering where the security was...I never saw any. Sure hope those weapons were unloaded. Can you imagine what could happen. I wonder what the hell I was doing there, now that I think of it. I hate guns.
But this event is a piece of history and I sure hope everyone moving about today was sane.
We heard a few booms, saw some smoke, heard some gunfire, couldn't figure out where it was coming from and eventually headed out.
I won't post any more pictures of Steak n Shake....but dang they're good. That's 2 milkshakes in 3 days...that's twice as many as I've had in the last 5 years.
We ran a few errands, walked the girls,
and went to see another bridge. I think we're getting bridged out. This bridge is the Smolen-Gulf Bridge. The longest in the State of Ohio and the newest. Beautiful all the same.
Larry, we'll still take you and Gail to see some of these cool bridges.
Ta ta for now...

This was very interesting. We have been to some re-enactments. If you will be in the area of Roanoke/Bedford, Virginia, there is a wonderful D-Day Museum and the docents there are great. I wish every U.S. high-schooler could go. Can you tell I am an ex-history teacher? Thanks for the great travelogue. Dottie Alexander
The 30-06 rifle was a "Type Writer" and was very heavy, 20 plus pounds. I would not want to carry one. They said it was used in the early 1900's. Bill
