Fall Foliage on the Natches Trace Trail

When you stop to take pictures every half mile it can take most of the day traveling 80 miles.  We joined the Natches Trace Parkway at the most northern point, just a couple of miles north of Birdsong Hollow.

The Double-Arched bridge below, that spans Birdsong Hollow, received the Presidential Award for Design Excellence in 1995.  It rises 155 feet above the valley.

We are officially on the Natchez Trace. (and heading south)

Gail and Tasha found a great set of wheels...perfect way to travel the Trace...unless it's in a 40 foot motorhome.

Drove over a bridge with wonderful views over each side.

  To the west side.
 To the east side.

Memorial to the Soldiers of the War of 1812 buried along the Natchez Trace Trail.

We decided to go see the Falls...hahaha.  When we hiked up and down over trails we found the next parkside pullout with another sign saying it was further down.  Then there was another sign that pointed back to where we parked saying the Overlook was 1/3 mile that-a-way.

Oh well, disappointing but Lilly and I enjoyed the hike.  I realized at one point on the hike that it was just Lilly and me...hmmmm.  So I started singing Davey Crocket...that I'd killed a bear when I was only three....that must have done the trick...didn't see any bears.  I did hear a lot of grunting a ways behind me...thought first a wild boar or a pig...hahaha.  It was Larry.

There are many locations along the Trace where you can see the actual original trail.  This is just one of many.  Some are very pronounced...6-20 feet deep.

I think it was about this time that we decided if we were going to get to the park before dark we had to get moving.  We'll have over a week to backtrack the 21 miles north of us that we passed up to get set up before nightfall.

The end of the trail, for today.  This park is huge and is shared with KOA, somewhere out here.  The actual sites for TT is over 2 miles back into the forest.  Very quiet here.

Beth and Eric invited the four of us to dinner.  It was a pleasant evening and we were actually able to eat outside.

Thanks for stoppin in.  See ya'll soon.

Hi - Loved the photos on the Trace. We were at the TT park there in 2001 in summertime but it looks even prettier now. If you get a chance, let us know about the KOA/TT combination. How does that work?
Thanks. George and Dottie
