Kennebunkport, ME and the Bush Compound

Kennebunk and Kennebunkport Maine are filled with beautiful homes that sit on large lots or acreage.  The closer to Kennebunkport we got the bigger and more impressive the homes.

These sign posts are really cute and oddly out of place in such a luxurious neighborhood.  Seems more Haight Ashburyish.

I like the ones nestled in the trees and if it's pale yellow I'm swooning.

Okay, now I'm drooling.

Approaching nearer to the Bush Compound we came across this beautiful little rock church on Walker's Point.

Saint Ann's Church.  Property dedicated by Walker family.

Mother of George Walker Bush.

Seaside Pulpit

Not the best day for this small boat sailor.  Appears he's lost his mast and needed a tow.

A quick look back across to the small church revealed this gorgeous home built on the point next to the church.

This was a real helpful clue that we were close to the Compound.  In fact we pulled into a small parking area along side the road to see we had a maximum of 15 minutes to get our pictures and beat it.

The entire peninsula across this small bay is the Bush Compound.  What a lovely place to live.

A closer view of the Compound.

That about covers what we could see but it's nice to know he's happy and well protected.  We drove slowly away and headed into Kennebunkport, a small coastal town loaded with tourist.

One of the most photographed homes in Maine.

Formally known as the George W. Bourne House.  Built in 1825 by shipbuilder George W. Boure, who later built a frame barn which he connected to the main house .  After the barn caught fire it was demolished to protect the carriage house.  It was after the fire that Bourne began the embellishing of the exterior in Gothic style using hand tools.  He built buttresses with pinnacles on the house and then added more to tie the house to the replacement barn.

The side yard gate seems peaceful on the eyes after looking at the house.
The replacement barn tied to the old house.

We headed home after meeting the owner and his six King Charles Spaniels.  He's a retired art broker and has had up to 26 KC Spaniels at one time.  I guess he loves these dogs.  They are cute.

So thanks for visiting and come again soon.
